My name is Ken Davis and I want to introduce myself. As you may have heard, I've joined the FOXSports.com and Scout.com family as managing editor and beat writer for this UConn site. I am excited to be on board and I ask your patience while we get things cranked up this week. I'm learning my way around the site but soon I will be bringing you exclusive reports on UConn football, men's and women's hoops, the search for a new athletic director, the changing landscape of college athletics - especially as it involves the Big East and UConn - and anything relevant to the UConn scene. And, as always, Scout.com will be first with all the recruiting news you need and want. We've got the best group of recruiting experts and they will continue to post news and features, in addition to helping me locate the prospects on all the wish lists at UConn.
Some of you may remember me from my 20 years at The Hartford Courant. During that time I spent 12 seasons as the beat writer for men's basketball and 8 years as national college writer. I've witnessed all three national championships won by the men's program and I've been to every Final Four since 1985. I also reported on the football program's upgrade to Division I-A and the construction of Rentschler Field. After leaving The Courant in Dec. 2005, I stayed close to the UConn programs while doing freelance work for a variety of Internet sites, newspapers and magazines.
Among the things that kept me busy during that period was my work on the UConn Basketball Vault: The History of the Huskies, a Whitman Publishing vault book that was released in October 2010. It's the only complete history of the men's basketball program ever published. Check it out - if you haven't already.
It's going to be an exciting year at UConn again. I've been following the football team and new coach Paul Pasqualoni since Big East media day on Aug. 1. I think this team will be better than many expect. And, of course, the men's and women's basketball teams are in contention for the national championship again. Come next spring, it will be exciting to see how the baseball team follows up on a terrific season. The Huskies are changing the baseball landscape in New England.
I will be posting stories soon. Keep an eye out. And we will have a chance to exchange ideas on the forums and in chat sessions. More details to come soon.
It's great to be back on the UConn beat. Have a little patience as we get started, but things will be rocking soon. I promise.
