Drummond was recognized by the conference Monday for his performance against Fairfield when he scored 16 points on 8 of 10 shooting, along with nine rebounds, four steals and two blocks. Drummond helped UConn to a 79-71 victory over Fairfield. Drummond has made 25 of his last 29 field goal attempts for the Huskies (10-1).
This is the second consecutive Rookie of the Week honor for Drummond. He was also honored on Nov. 28.
West Virginia’s Kevin Jones was name Player of the Week Monday. And UConn guard Shabazz Napier was one of five players named to the weekly honor roll. Napier had 24 points, six rebounds, five assists and two steals against Fairfield.
After their Christmas break, the Huskies have returned to practice and will play at South Florida in their Big East opener Wednesday day night. That will be the first of three consecutive games without coach Jim Calhoun, who is serving his NCAA imposed suspension due to recruiting violations in the UConn program.
