Connecticut freshman quarterback Casey Cochran is expected to miss four to six weeks after successful surgery on his broken left wrist last Friday, UConn spokesman Mike Enright said Monday.

Cochran broke his non-throwing wrist two weeks ago in a bicycle accident. And while he will be able to keep up to speed with meetings and film study, it remains a mystery whether he will be able to take snaps when UConn opens camp on Aug. 3.

UConn coach Paul Pasqualoni said the recovery might be closer to six weeks.

Cochran is the two-time Connecticut Gatorade Player of the Year and the state high school record holder in passing yards and touchdowns. He enrolled at UConn in January, went through spring practice and participated in the spring game.

Cochran, 18, is expected to battle Johnny McEntee, Chandler Whitmer, Scott McCummings and Michael Nebrich for the starting quarterback spot. Whitmer had the best performance in the spring game but Pasqualoni and his staff may wait until the Aug. 30 opener against UMass to name a starter.
