Command Performance: MU 70 USF 47

#24 MU improves to 16-5 overall and 7-2 in BIG EAST play as it dominated USF on the road 70-47. Todd Mayo and Vander Blue had 13 points apiece to lead the scoring for the Golden Eagles. In what might have been the best performance of the season, MU shot 45.1% from the field, 35.3% from long range and were 18-21 from the FT line.

[Junior Cadougan vs USF] PG Junior Cadougan had 11 points and 5 assists while F Jamil Wilson chipped in with 10 points and 5 rebounds. Juan Anderson had 2 points but a team-high 7 rebounds.

Here is Buzz Williams from his postgame show on AM540 with Steve True:

Steve 'the Homer' True: [if there was a clinic on team defense you could use the tape of the first half. Would you agree?]

Buzz: "You could argue that the first half on both ends of the court was our best performance…maybe Prov…I thought we played very well…

Buzz: "I thought the guys deserved the right to play well based on how they practiced. They practiced well on Monday and Tuesday. They realized that in order to compete on the road against a team like Louisville, how they prepared on Monday, what they did preparing yesterday…I thought they were in a good frame of mind. I thought Todd[Mayo] was really good off the bench. I think Chris[Otule] has a level of confidence that he is playing at…taking guys out of the driving lanes…changing shots at the basket…has really been working Davante over in practice…He seals his guy. Knows when to seal. He is really playing well …particularly in practice. True confidence only comes from your work and he is playing with confidence.

[Davante huffs and puffs vs USF]

Homer True: [Todd Mayo passed up shots he normally would have taken only to get the ball back and get a better shot and he hit every one.]

Buzz: "The bench teaches a lot of lessons. I think Vander and Trent have been playing at a high level. I know Todd wants to play but we have to play the way we have to play to win. Obviously we when you make shots it looks easier out there.

True: [Juan Anderson ..0 pts...but 7 rebs..2 asts and a block…active out there]

[Juan Anderson doing the dirty work.]

Buzz: "I thought he was really active out there. It is hard for me to accept me as a coach…[if I had to choose]I would not like to be ‘Country'…be smarter…but I cannot do that…it is not who I am…I think Juan is continuing to grow as who he is as a player…his energy level is continuing to grow.

True: [you created more TOs off their dribble vs USF ]

Buzz: "I don't want to give you our scouting report but that is a good observation. It's hard[to win on the road.] I told the guys, Prov scares me. Cinn goes on the road , #17 in the country and gets beat. Uconn goes to St Johns and gets beat. It is hard to win. It is a volatile league. It is the worst home court winning % in the Big East since I have been here.
