Huskies are strong with Vaughn

Robert Vaughn

With a limited number of available scholarships, Randy Edsall and his staff have to be cautious as to how they distribute them. One prospect from nearby Massachusetts received an offer from the Huskies a while ago, and the Huskies are solidly planted in his top five.

North Attleboro (Mass.) defensive back Robert Vaughn (6-1, 195, 4.5) still remembers the day he received word that the Huskies offered, almost like it just happened.

"Lyndon Johnson told me that they had a recruiting meeting and that the whole staff liked my tape," Vaughn said. "They said they put the tape on Coach Edsall's desk and he approved the offer. They said they plan on taking three defensive backs this year."

Vaughn has taken an unofficial visit to Connecticut.

"I loved how the coaches emphasize academics, my meeting with the academic advisor just reaffirmed what the coaching staff told me,' Vaughn said. "The team is like a family there that really impressed me. Coach Johnson is a great guy; I really enjoy talking to him, I loved the stadium there and the fact that they're building a new indoor facility.

The Huskies will face competition from Wisconsin, Boston College, and Syracuse. The Orange have yet to offer but Vaughn's family ties to the Orange make them contenders.

"My brother Marcus runs track there, so I'm definitely interested. I like Coach White he's a real good guy,' Vaughn said.

Vaughn camped at Boston College and Syracuse.

Boston College: "I was there for one day I worked out during the morning and the afternoon sessions. They kept me each time to workout for them. After the second session they had me and another kid work out with each other. I liked the campus a lot, I was there before, but I really didn't get to look around."

Syracuse: "I was there two days. They kept me after the sessions and worked me out. They said they liked me a lot. Coach [Greg] Robinson told me too keep working hard and be patient and things will work out. They're building three new practice fields there. Their putting in a two-story weight room and putting field turf in the carrier Dome."

Vaughn is currently working on future plans
