It was only a matter of time before Erik Kuraczea gave his verbal commitment to Connecticut after speaking to the young man last week about his current recruiting situation. Today Kuraczea will give Connecticut it’s second verbal commitment.
Erik Kuraczea
, a 6-foot-2, 300-pounder from Ansonia High School in Ansonia, Conn., was about to break his verbal commitment to Head Coach Randy Edsall and the rest of the
Connecticut
coaching staff as Scout.com spoke to him only minutes ago. This will give Connecticut a pure center prospect that they coveted in-state and overall, their second commitment.
“I’m about to call Coach Edsall right now and commit,” Kuraczea said. “When it came down to it I really am going there for the reasons I told you the other day in terms of how close it is to home, my relationship with the staff and the facilities and education that Connecticut has to offer me.”
“If the facilities are so good at Connecticut why am I going to go five hours away when I have it right here? The weight room is huge and they said they were still bringing in new equipment which is crazy to me considering how high-tech the stuff they already have is. They had these compressed air machines you could use to lift with and I don’t even understand how it works at this point, but I know it’s a good thing. The indoor field was really nice and they have features where they can crank up the heat if they’re going to play a team like South Florida or something and are also installing loud speakers so they can simulate crowd noise.”
“This is just such an easy fit for me,” Kuraczea added. “I really get along well with all of the staff and feel like I’m at home on campus there. Connecticut just has everything that I need right there in front of me.”
As a junior at Ansonia, Kuraczea registered 70 tackles and 14.5 sacks earning him first team All-Area and All-State honors. He was also named Defensive Player of the Year by the
